If your glasses slide down your nose, pinch behind your ears, or rest on your cheeks, the problem is probably not your face. Most frames are designed around a narrow range of face shapes, and a lot of us were never part of that range.
That is the problem Nancey Harris and Tracy Green set out to fix. After years of struggling to find stylish glasses that actually fit, they started Vontélle, one of the few luxury eyewear brands owned and run by Black women.
Frames designed for us
Vontélle frames are built with wider bridges, longer temples and larger lenses. In plain terms: they sit properly on broader noses, reach comfortably past the ears, and leave room for high cheekbones and fuller faces. No pinching, no constant pushing them back up.
The styles carry the culture too. Collections like Romare Bearden and Harlem Haberdashery draw on Black art and history, and the kids' line includes a Nickelodeon collaboration, so the next generation gets glasses that fit and frames they are proud to wear.
Welcome back to Hillman
Few pairs of glasses are as famous as Dwayne Wayne's flip-ups from A Different World. Vontélle partnered with Kadeem Hardison, the actor who played Dwayne Wayne, and his brand DEEMED on a collection of flip-up aviators inspired by that iconic look.
And now those frames are on Netflix. Netflix is bringing the show back with Kadeem Hardison returning as Dwayne, and Vontélle's frames appear in the show itself. The teaser put the flip-up glasses front and center with one line: “Welcome Back To Hillman.” A whole new generation is meeting the frames, and the original fans never forgot them. The Vontélle x DEEMED collection lets you wear a piece of that history, made to fit.
More than a product
Vontélle puts its success back into the community. The brand donates eyewear and proceeds to WIN (Women In Need), which runs shelters for women and families in New York City, and works with schools and nonprofits to bring vision care and prescription glasses to children who would otherwise go without.
How BlackAds helped Vontélle grow
A great product still has to be found. BlackAds runs Vontélle's paid advertising on Google and Meta, aimed at the Black consumers the brand was built for, and manages its SEO so people searching for Black-owned eyewear find Vontélle first.
A 500% return on ad spend means every $1 put into ads brings back $5 or more in sales. On the SEO side, Vontélle climbed from around position 35 to positions 6 and 7 for searches like “black-owned eyewear company”: from page four, where almost nobody looks, to the first page.
